Read that quote again – Generation Y.
Now, once more.
Do you understand? It’s the old cliché – QUALITY over QUANTITY! This is why I firmly believe entrepreneurship is the direction the United States of America – maybe even the world – must go.
Jacob Cass spoke those words above. He’s a Generation Y-er – only 24 years old. He is the founder of JUST Creative, a graphic design website. Cass is a graphic designer who started at the age of 16 when he got his first freelance job. Since then, he’s moved from his native Sydney, Australia to New York City and has made a name for himself in the graphic design industry.
There is no reason why anybody else can’t be just like Jacob. I get tired of reading articles that tell me how lazy Generation Y is and how other generations don’t understand us. You know what? Maybe it’s WE who don’t understand THEM. I don’t understand why I should slave away at a meaningless, soul-sucking job for 30 or 40 years only to “enjoy” my retirement when I’m too exhausted from life. I don’t understand how I’m supposed to find any meaning in my life as I spend 8 or 9 hours a day just working to pay the bills. Does anybody really find any meaning at their job? Unless you’re a doctor, I doubt it.
Let’s face it, Gen Y. We got a raw deal. We were sold this college crap and told we would make bank. The other generations sold it and we bought into the hype. We were young and stupid. But, we need to get over it and make our own decisions now. Just like Jacob did. We need to decide once and for all what type of generation WE want to be and not let others define us.
And that goes for the situation we leave our children in. Look, the job market is terrible right now and unemployment is ridiculous. I want to let you, the readers of Financial Bin, know about the E2 Petition. This petition calls for making Entrepreneurship Education part of the required core curriculum in ALL public schools for grades 4 through 12.
We need to do our part to make sure America’s future focuses on the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit that made our country great. Supporting this effort from Anthony Delmedico and his partners is the first in a series of crucial (but necessary) steps.
