3 Cheap (And Free) Ways To Entertain Yourself At Home

ways to entertain yourself at home

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to have fun at home. Rather than buying the latest games for your console, streaming the latest movies for your family film nights, or downloading the latest books on your Kindle (as examples), you can actually do all of these things cheaply and for free.

This is great news for those of you who are unemployed or simply trying to make ends meet on a very meager budget.

Take a look at the following tips for free and cheap entertainment.

For The Gamers

If gaming is your thing, you can hold off on the latest big-name releases until they come down in price. You can still play the demos on your games consoles, but there are loads of other games that are available for free.

Massively multiplayer adventure awaits in FFXV for those of you playing on Android and IOS devices, while for those of you playing on Sony’s or Microsoft’s consoles, there are a whole host of free releases, including Pro Evolution Soccer Lite for those who love sports, and Star Trek Online for anybody into a bit of role-playing. Check out Steam too, as they continually have a range of demos and free releases for those playing on Mac and Windows PC.

Admittedly, some developers recoup the money they spend on freely-released titles through microtransactions, though the expense is entirely optional.

Movie Night

Movie buffs don’t need to pay subscription fees to Netflix and Amazon, as there are many free (legal) movie streaming sites to get their entertainment fix. Take a look at some of these movie download websites, for example. Admittedly, you won’t get to see some of the bigger titles, though there are some hidden gems and classics hidden within each film library available to you.

On the other hand, paying a monthly subscription to Netflix isn’t so bad considering the amount of movies and tv shows available. There are new titles released every day, and one monthly fee is way cheaper than paying individual prices when streaming on Apple and Google Play etc. when many of those same titles will become available on Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and the like, at some point in the future.

Reading

If you would rather stick your nose in a good book than stare at a tv screen, then there are plenty of options available to you as well. These are some of the best websites for book downloads, with a range of titles from literary classics to the latest e-Books from burgeoning authors. Download them onto your smart device, and you will have many hours of reading pleasure.

Alternatively, do what we used to do before everything went digital, and head to your local library. These bastions of reading are in danger of closing thanks to the internet,  but you can keep them open by loaning out the newest titles available for free.

Hours of pleasure at little or no cost to yourself. You can’t say fairer than that, and the money you save can be spent on treating yourself to those other luxuries that you enjoy in life.
