Press Release: ServiTech Provides Students with Real-World Entrepreneur Experience

SAN DIEGO – Students at Lutheran High School of San Diego are taking a step beyond the typical classroom setting with the launch of ServiTech, an IT consulting firm. The student run company provides real-world experiences in the world of technology infrastructure and entrepreneurship.

ServiTech combines on-demand IT services and consulting expertise to area non-profits and small businesses. Students develop technology solutions for real business challenges as they deliver services that include planning, procurement, design, implementation, and ongoing network management.

“Our students manage a complete IT department. It is their company from the initial client pitch to trouble shooting customer service calls,” said Scott Dufresne, executive director of Lutheran High School of San Diego. “This is an intensive program that will help students pursue both their entrepreneurial and technical ambitions.”

ServiTech has two divisions, customer service and engineering. Currently about 30 students participate, and they are graded at different levels, each bringing various degrees of skill and acumen to the business.

The final grade includes six fundamentals values – participation, professionalism, servant hood, leadership, technical and problem solving – worth 15 percent each and 10 percent for overall project.

To date, the students successfully designed, built and manage an enterprise Network Operations Center (NOC) and a support center help desk. These student run centers support over 1000 seats and nearly 500 mobile devices, such as iPads.

“Students are learning to carry and conduct themselves in a professional manner, as they provide reliable, high-quality technology services. Before your business experiences a tech disaster, you should consult with ServiTech, it’s a technology A-team,” said Tim La Fazia, instructor.
